German Trips and Exchanges
Köln 2005
The first trip exclusively for students of German was to Cologne (Köln) in May 2005. The students spent 3 days visiting the sights in Köln, Bonn and Düsseldorf. We also visited Königen-Luise-Schule,a school in the city centre and experience a German schoolday first-hand. Students had an opportunity to experience real life in Germany as we travelled exclusively on public transport and ate in local restaurants.
Passau 2006
Our next trip was to the city of Passau in south-west Germany. The purpose of this trip was to forge links with our sister school located 12km from Passau, the Maristengymnasium Fürstenzell. Students spent 2 days at school there and in the afternoons and evenings we visited the sights, went shopping, went on a boat trip etc. On the return journey we spent a day in the city of Munich.
German Exchange 06/07
Our first proper exchange took place in Mar /April 2007. 14 Marist students participated in the exchange and spent a week living with their exchange partners. We went to Fürstenzell just before Easter and the return leg was the week after Easter.
Highlights of the exchange:
- Trip to Frauenau in the Bavarian Forest to visit a Glass factory
- Snowball fight in Frauenau
- Walking Tour of Passau
- Visit to the Library in the Marist Monastery (now no longer possible)

German Exchange 07/08
Our 2nd exchange took place quite soon after the first one. We travelled to Germany in October 2007 and spent a week there. The return leg of the exchange was again the week after Easter 2008.
Highlights
- Visit to Mauthausen Concentration Camp in Austria
- Stadium Tour of the Allianz Arena in Munich
- Meeting the Lord Mayor of Fürstenzell
- Dance classes (!)
German Exchange 08/09
Exchange No 3 went back to the original timing with both groups travelling just before and just after Easter.
Highlights:
- Visit to the Saltmines and Celtic Settlement in Hallein, Austria
- Visit to the city of Salzburg, Austria
- Visit to the Glass Factory in Frauenau high in the Bavarian Forest
- Stadium Tour of the Allianz Arena, Munich
Unfortunately due to changes in personnel and curriculum changes in Germany it was not possible to run the exchange over the last 2 years. However we are in constant contact with MGF and hope to continue in the future.
