About St Mary's College

Founded in 1861, St. Mary’s College is a Catholic co-educational secondary school located on an 11-acre site in the heart of Dundalk. Under the trusteeship of the Marist Fathers (The Society of Mary) and guided by Mary’s vision of service, our college caters for the educational welfare of over 700 students. We seek to provide for the holistic development and welfare of each of the students in our care through academic, pastoral and spiritual undertakings.

St. Mary's College is a partnership between the Marist Education Authority, Board of Management, Parents and Staff. All parties are looking towards providing the best education possible to our students.

ICT at the College

Marist teachers are ICT leaders!

The Marist College has in recent years been at the cutting edge of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), having won a number of national and international awards for their computer and internet projects over the years. The College is constantly expanding its ICT capabilities.  With teacher-based classrooms, all teachers have computers and data projectors in their rooms which facilitate interactivity and the display of materials for class use. A number of classrooms have also been equipped with Interactive Whiteboards.

Three Marist teachers have been carrying on the great tradition of leading the way in the educational use of computers and technology. Recently Ms. Sandra Doyle (German), Ms. Pippa Brady (English) and Mr. Dónal Hegarty (Science) were approached by the National Centre for Technology in Education (NCTE) to be filmed using Information and Communications Technology in the classroom.

ICT at the College

The NCTE  is the Government agency which implements all ICT policies for the Department of Education and Science and they wanted to highlight 'Best Practice' for integrating ICT into teaching and learning. The resulting video was then used to train teachers in other schools across Ireland.

The College uses an 'ePortal' administrative system which allows teachers to enter examination results and take roll calls on-line. The College has also become involved in a pilot project for an online Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).  This provides online resources and links for students to enhance their learning.  The VLE also allows students to submit work via the internet and promotes online communication for the whole College community.
