Assessment

St. Mary's College operates a comprehensive system of continuous assessment.
Weekly Marks
Over a period of five weeks each week a student is given a mark between 6 (excellent) and 2 (poor) in each subject, each week. These marks are for effort made in that particular week in the particular subject. Students with bad behaviour in a subject are given an asterisk as well as a mark.

Monthly tests
Towards the end of the five-week period, students are given a test in each subject.

Monthly report
The five sets of weekly marks and the grade for the test are entered onto the monthly report, which is then sent home to parents.

Pre-Junior Cert and Pre-Leaving Cert Examinations
3rd and 6th year students have the opportunity to sit these examinations before they sit the state examinations in June. They are held either before or after the February Mid-Term break

Summer Examinations
Students in 1st, 2nd and 5th year sit summer examinations in the last week of term before the summer holidays
